Florida Scrubjay by JJ Audubon 1827 Framed Poster
The Florida Scrub Jay is the scrappier, Central-Florida-only, version of the more common Blue Jay. They have lighter blue feathers and a grey belly, and can look a little rumpled. They have very specific habitat needs, particularly low standing scrub.
They are monogomous, but omnivorous. During the mating ritual the male dances around circling the female and gently pecking her feet. Once they are paired off they reinforce their bond by feeding each other delicacies like small lizards. A single scrub jay can cache well over 5,000 acorns each fall, but they eat small critters, bugs, and berries too.
