Early Morning Tarpon Springs 1892 by George Inness Jr Framed canvas

$36.14

George Inness Jr. and his wife Julia set up house in Tarpon Springs in 1902, and eventually expanded their home there to 27 rooms, plus cottages, plus studio, so they had plenty of space to accommodate artist friends. Because of their legacy of artistic hospitality and philanthropy, Tarpon Springs is often referred to as The City of the Arts.

Born in Paris in 1854 to George Inness Sr., also a painter, George Jr. grew up in the United States while spending much time abroad in Italy and France. He spent his early artistic career as an illustrator, but when he married into wealth and was relieved of the pressure of commercial success, he turned to a more tonalist style of painting with spiritual overtones. He established a winter residence in Tarpon Springs and snowbirded and painted there every winter until his death in 1926.
